AbstractWhen German Cultural Minister Michael Naumann arrives in St. Petersburg today, he will be weighed down by the hopes of art historians across Europe - and by the considerable bulk of two priceless pieces of art that once belonged to Peter the Great's legendary Amber Room. The objects, an ornately-inlaid 18th century dresser and a mosaic studded with precious stones, were pilfered from the amber-paneled room by Nazi soldiers in 1941 and until recently were considered hopelessly lost.
