AnmerkungCurrent Ukrainian city, L'viv was before the Second World War, know as Lwow, was a city of Poles, Jews and Ukrainians, a city of acute antagonisms. Jacek Kuron, Polish intellectual and politician who guided the country in its battle against Communist rule. He cofounded the Committee to Assist Workers (KOR), which joined forces with the Solidarity movement. Their protests throughout the 1980s ultimately led to the collapse of the Communist government. Kuron became labor minister in 1989, and lost a bid for the presidency in 1995.
