Anmerkung | The present article deals with a little known phenomenon in the history of higher education in Russia -- namely, the Russian School of Higher Social Studies, founded in 1901 in Paris by a group of liberal Russian professors (among them M. M. Kovalevskii). Though it was founded and operating in France, this school was the first Russian institution of higher education offering sociology classes. The School played a political role in addition to its pedagogical one by preparing Russian society to the changes that would occur in the Russian political regime after the Revolution of 1905.
