AbstractThe glory of imperial St Petersburg, dubbed the eighth wonder of the world, this highly ornate study, clad in intricately carved Baltic amber, was presented by Prussia to Peter the Great in the early 18th century and installed at the Catherine Palace outside St Petersburg. The Nazis dismantled it and took it to German Koenigsberg, now Russian Kaliningrad, during the siege of Leningrad. It disappeared in 1945. (Kurznotiz)
