| Abstract | The famed Amber Room at the grandiose Catherine Palace moved a step closer to total restoration last week when a New York philanthropist presented the palace's museum with a $10,000 check. Patti Birch, a trustee of both New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, presented the funds before her departure Monday. The donation will help with the purchase of giant blocks of amber from which restorers will carve frames for the room's large mirrors. |
