Abstract | The following article analyzes intertextual references of Julius Zeyer's "Jan Maria Plojhar" (1888) to Ivan A. Gončarov's "Oblomov" (1859). Zeyer’s novel is extremely rich in allusion to “Oblomov”. There are similarities between the two novels as in plot, as in composition, as in numerious details. Even if "Jan Maria Plojhar" is that work by Zeyer, to which the epithets 'most Czech' and 'original' are most frequently applied, it could be shown, that it is the first important Czech novel inspired by a Russian realistic novel. |
