Note"Tatiana L'vovna Shchepkina-Kupernik (1874–1952), who was a famous, even notorious poet before the revolution, is today known chiefly as a translator of verse comedy and as a biographer of actresses. Archival research, as well as a re-reading of her published work, forces us to re-evaluate her both as a poet in her own right and as an interesting strategist of survival in a revolutionized literary world. This article focuses on both typical and surprisingly original aspects of her uncollected and unpublished verse and on Shchepkina-Kupernik's efforts to create a posthumous image for herself."
