Note"Wall argues that history must be conceived in terms of lived times and lived spaces, not just abstract or coldly physical time and space, in the same way that dialogism, for Bakhtin, is a form of humanly lived and experienced language, not merely an abstract product of language, neutrally conceived. This preliminary way of understanding the fundamental distinction between physical time-space and human history allows us to move to the crucially Bakhtinian concept of the chronotope, the latter necessarily becoming an integral and mobile part of the territory of what is humanly and socially lived through by real-life human beings. In other words, the chronotope becomes part of history (and not the other way round). Lived history is, for Bakhtin, life with loopholes. Historical awareness can only occur when we give ourselves a conception of time that can look back on itself."
