The European Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies (EBSEES) collects books, journal articles, reviews and dissertations from Eastern Europe (former countries of Eastern Bloc) which were published in Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland from 1991 to 2007. The segment "Literature" and "Culture" of the European Bibliography of Slavic and East European Studies contains 18.000 bibliographic entries (from the total asset of 85.000). | Note | "In a negotiated exchange of men for war material, the Tsarist government sent two brigades to fight on the Western Front on the side of their French ally in 1916. After the revolution occurred in Russia, the two brigades mutinied and were transferred to a remote corner of France, where the mutiny was suppressed. After stability was achieved, a number of loyal Russian soldiers asked to return to the front as the Russian Legion. The motive of these men was solely to honour their nation’s commitment to France, and they fought well to the end of the war, suffering heavy casualties." |
