AbstractA Gainesville explorer left Wednesday to search for the Amber Room, a stolen Soviet treasure from Czarist Russia called the "Eighth Wonder of the World.' The Amber Room, valued at $158 million, is Norman Scott's quest. "It is the biggest art mystery in the world,' said Scott, president of Global Explorations of Gainesville. "I'm very confident we'll find cultural assets like Russian icons that were hidden by the Germans, but the chances of finding the Amber Room are about 50-50.'
